本片是斯皮尔伯格受成长经历启发的初心之作，亚洲讲述了主人公萨姆·法贝尔曼（加布里埃尔·拉贝尔 饰）的成长经历。萨姆从小就爱上了电影，亚洲并尝试创作属于自己的电影。这一兴趣得到了他的艺术家母亲米兹（米歇尔·威廉姆斯 饰）、计算机工程师父亲伯特（保罗·达诺 饰）以及家中其他人的一致支持。如果说电影是造梦的艺术，那么法贝尔曼一家就是一个“造梦之家”。多年之后，萨姆已成长为一个天才的少年导演，凭热爱创作出一部部令人惊喜的业余电影。但意外的是，通过摄影机的镜头，他发现了一个关于母亲的心碎真相。而这将改变他与整个家庭的未来。
